FOA president Paul Nicholls has been honoured as Forester of the Year for outstanding service to the forestry industry. The award – which is one of the industry's highest accolades, recognising contribution, leadership, excellence and integrity – was awarded at the New Zealand Institute of Forestry's annual awards dinner in Napier last night.

In the first five months of this year, the number of serious injuries reported in forestry has dropped by nearly half compared with last year, Labour Minister Simon Bridges says.
A Bay of Plenty forestry contractor has questioned why Worksafe NZ and its predecessors weren't more pro-active about forest safety in the past. In the past 10 months they have issued 60 health and safety enforcement actions in the Bay, many more than in previous years.
