First Light Kiwi bach scores in Washington

The Meridian First Light house – modelled on a Kiwi holiday bach – has won  third place overall in the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011, just a few points behind the winner. It also took first prize for engineering and second prize for architecture.

Govt proposes ban on hot air CERs

In the spring of 1997 Glen Clark, the then-premier of British Columbia, called Greenpeace the enemy of the province for its high-profile antilogging campaigns targeting the forest industry. In 2011, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson honoured the organisation by declaring 15 September Greenpeace Day to mark the founding of the ecogroup there 40 years ago.

Panel recommends changes to forest rules in NZETS

A panel that reviewed the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme recommends that implementation of the scheme should be slowed down. It also wants big anomalies applying to the treatment of forests to be remedied.

Forest & wood industry award winners named

The top guns from New Zealand's forest and wood industry were announced on Wednesday evening at the National Training Awards run by FITEC (the forestry and wood industry trainng organisation). Out of 7000 trainees, 11 outstanding candidates and companies were recognised at the highest level and awarded at a ceremony held at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.

'Transformed' Tenon makes a small loss
